SB Accounting Solutions
owner Patricia Olson comes by her entrepreneurial spirit
honestly. Her father owned and operated his own business as a
Pest Control Operator. Her mother, though originally a
homemaker, started her own business as a Real Estate/Owner
Broker with 13 agents underneath her.
Patricia herself first
embarked on the path to financial independence with a newspaper
route at the age of nine. When she was seventeen, she started
her own business making stained-glass windows. She always
handled all her company’s business operations and accounting
herself.
Patricia received an
undergraduate degree at Napa Valley College and later earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Design at Philadelphia
Textiles and Science. While attending college she worked as a
waitress and bookkeeper. It was at one of these jobs that a CPA
discovered her talent for financial organization and began
mentoring her. With his assistance, she gained a broad-based
understanding of Profit and Loss Statements and Balance Sheets.
She moved from bookkeeping to Accounting, where she reported
directly to the company’s president, vice-president, and head of
sales.
Patricia’s artistic side
reasserted itself in the 1990s, when she started her own
hand-painted textile company in San Francisco. Her fabrics were
displayed at the Design Center, and her hand-painted garments
were sold at Macy’s. Despite her success, however, she felt a
need for greater intellectual stimulation. She also began to
recognize that creativity is not restricted to the arts. Finding
ethical solutions to financial problems is a skill and an art.
Unraveling numbers to reveal the best options for business
owners requires considerable creativity. By starting her own
bookkeeping business in the year 2000, Patricia was able to make
use of all her talents.
In the course of running SB
Accounting Solutions, Patricia has become involved with various
organizations. A former Vice President of NAWBO, she is now a
delegate to the Board. She serves on the Small Business Advisory
Council for the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. She also
serves as Secretary for Small Business Network and works with
Small Business California to address the issue of health care
for small business owners.
In her free time, Patricia
enjoys Bikram yoga, meditation, reading, and gourmet cooking.
